CONTRAINDICATIONS TO LENS WEAR GENERAL HEALTH REASON: Pregnancy During pregnancy the tear film may change causing wearing problems. There may be water retention causing corneal edema Some patients have problems with lens wear particularly during the first 3 to 6 months of a pregnancy. Patient should be allowed to wear lenses during pregnancy but it is usually prudent not to fit a new patient during this time. Thyroid Dysfunction Hypothroidism may cause dryness and difficulty with lens wear. Patient should be controlled with medications before being fitted. Hyperthyroidism can cause exophthalmos with resultant drying and fitting problems.
